What is an HJP?
HJPs are partnerships with hospitals which connect women receiving medical help, who are experiencing domestic violence, with legal assistance in relation to domestic violence, family separation or divorce, parenting or child safety matters.

Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) has HJPs with hospitals in southeast Queensland in the Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast and Moreton Bay regions.

Hospital social work staff or health practitioners can refer clients directly to WLSQ through the partnership.

Who can WLSQ help through their HJPs?
Women at these participating hospitals:

• Logan Hospital.
• Redlands Hospital.
• QEII Jubilee Hospital.
• Princess Alexandra Hospital.
• The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
• Gold Coast University Hospital.
• Robina Hospital.
• Redcliffe Hospital.
• Caboolture Hospital.

Women who:

• Are patients, or the parent or carer of children who are patients, at a participating hospital;
• Have been affected by domestic violence; and
• Require legal advice about family law, domestic violence, or child safety matters.

How can the WLSQ HJPs help?
Our lawyers are available to provide legal advice as well as some assistance with legal drafting and the preparation of legal documents.

How can services refer a client to the WLSQ HJPs?
Warm referrals can be made by hospital staff and appointments will be made by the WLSQ team with the client directly.

Clients can also self-refer if they meet the criteria above:

• If they are a patient of a hospital in the Brisbane, Logan, Redlands, or Gold Coast Region please ask them to call 1800 957 957, 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
• If they are a patient of a hospital in the Moreton Bay Region please ask them to call (07) 5407 0212, 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
